our roots
🚗"Mommy we are hungry," they whined from the back seat. Junk food was out of the question and finding something suitable to eat while we ran errands always presented a challenge.
🤔Together we reasoned that if we had issues finding vegan/plant based food on the run so did others. The Yummy is born
🍲 A chance meeting at a local health food store turned into a catering opportunity that turned into a business. Businesses need money; right?
💰Crowdsourcing, Crowdfunding! Over the next two years our GoFundMe campaign would be shared over four hundred times, yeh, I know awesome right? Well yes and no.
🤓We quickly learned that social currency doesn’t always translate into funding. Being underfunded during our start-up phase was discouraging and inspiring. The lack of funding forced us to make the best of what we had, TIME! We used our extra time to have fun with recipes, to create, refine and test out the products that eventually become our starting line-up. (Black Bean Chunks, Crumbles, Chickpea Chunks & Crumbles, The Yummy Burger)
👨🏫Determination! In June of 2018 despite waning financial support we set up a brick and mortar location. Establishing the location on a limited budget had its own set of challenges, (replacing water heater early on, AC issues, the need for a new car, acquiring equipment.) We were aware of the statistics about failing restaurants so we put off having a grand opening for two years. We grew our customers base strictly by word of mouth. Over the past two years our financial setbacks has affected our ability to remain consistently open resulting in us closing for long periods.
😉Believe in yourself! The potential is here and we worked so hard to get to this point that we invested our personal resources to maintain the location until now. Our customers are confused by this transitional time but through it all, we held to our commitment. During our down time we continued to use social media and pop up events to keep the lines of communication open.
🤗What’s going on now? Currently, we are supplying a local vegan restaurant with our black bean chunks and crumbles, we also incorporate our products in the food we sell at the local farmers market. We continue to add value to the plant-based by sharing relevant news, recipes and inspirational stories.
